My Old Victorian House for Sale
Structural Repairs/rebuilding

We purchased the house in August of 1985. The beautiful picket fence was gone. The front porch was sagging
more than 4". Steps were rotten, built directly on the ground with no concrete footings. So the first project we
tackled back in 1986 were the front and side stairs. They were unsafe.

Note the huge deodora cedar tree, overwhelming the house. As much as I value a good tree, this one had to go.
And such an ugly fence. Bottom board holding back the raised lawn, and rotting away. BTW, that is a
Little Giant ladder, right center in the photo. Best ladder ever made. I still use it today.

Starting on the stairs revealed the extent of the deterioration of the porch. It was time to do a major
restoration of the support structure. We replaced the doug fir 4x6's and then purchased 8" redwood shiplap
siding, authentic replacement of the original.

I had some help during this part of the restoration from George.
He was a handyman, now retired, and his business name was "Let George Do It". His house is 2 blocks south.
